Bowling Night

Espresso Bowl
Originally uploaded by dublwrap.
After an eleven hour day, it was time for my weekly bowling excursion. This time around, a few of my SBUX cohorts decided to join the league and it has been a blast ever since. Tonight, the DMs took on the SMs and it was a real nail biter. Who am I kidding...we smoked 'em. Maybe it was the gleam off my bald head that distracted the others...or maybe it was my best ever 601 series (202, 207, 192). I just couldn't miss tonight (sorry...) Enjoy the visual recap.

I Miss It Already

Well...I had to make an executive decision and cancel my trip to Mardi Gras. Work takes precedence so no dice in the Big Easy. I'll miss the smell of the Muffalatas at Central Grocer, the sounds at Tipitinas, the po'boys....ummm...everywhere, the spectacle of the Krewes, the outrageous costumes on Fat Tuesday, walking down Magazine, the locals at Mollys, the fire fountain at Pat O'Briens, the beignets at Cafe DuMonde, Lundi Gras, really big beads, the oysters at ACME, hanging with my friends at the Chart Room, the hubcaps at the Clover, the jukebox at Port of Call, the gumbo at Liuzza's, the.....

Really Old Friends

Well...there they are. My two oldest and bestest friends from their first time on film in 1986. He stills lives around these parts, with a beautiful wife, dog and house. He threw me over his shoulder once. She lives a few hundred miles away and still has the red hair (which now covers both ears). I'd do anything for them. I've moved his furniture countless times. I've actually moved her across a parking lot. I think they are neat-o.

Georgia congressman opposes pro-Gators resolution

Congressman Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) rarely goes against GOP opinion in key votes on Capitol Hill. But on Tuesday, the eight-term Congressman really found himself in the minority.

Kingston, who has represented District 1 in southeast Georgia since 1993, was the only member of Congress to oppose House Resolution 39, which commended "the University of Florida Gators for their victory in the 2006 Bowl Championship Series (BCS) and for winning the national college football championship."

His reason? Kingston grew up in Athens, Ga., home of the University of Georgia, his alma mater and one of the Gators' fiercest rivals. Kingston still lives in Savannah, Ga., and flies to Washington weekly.

"Any time you can see Ohio State lose, it's a good day," said Kingston, who also attended Michigan State for two years. "However, there's just so far you can go. The Bulldog tendency in me hit and I had to vote no in a good, friendly rivalry."

The House bill passed by a vote of 414-1. Eight other congressmen from Georgia voted yes to the proposal, two voted present and two others didn't vote at all. The bill was sponsored by Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) and 19 other representatives from Florida.

The Gators defeated unbeaten and then-No. 1 Ohio State 41-14 in the BCS title game Jan. 8 in Glendale, Ariz., to win the school's second national championship in football. The Gators also won a national championship in men's basketball last season, becoming the first Division I-A school to hold both titles concurrently.

"I supported Florida in the game and wanted them to win and win big," Kingston told ESPN.com Thursday. "I'm obviously going to be partial to the SEC."

Such bills typically pass unanimously in Congress. For example, House Resolution 43, a bill that commended "the Boise State University Broncos football team for winning the 2007 Fiesta Bowl and completing an undefeated season," passed by a vote of 415-0 on Tuesday.

Ode to Nutter Butter

Say what you will about your favorite snack,
But a certain cookie...I got its Nabisco back,
It's smooth and creamy and anatomically correct,
And it breathes down Oreo's black and white neck,
I can't put them down until the whole bag is demolished,
All other imitators should be permanently abolished,
When I give blood the techs ask for my cookie du jour,
I snag a few packs while I stumble out the door,
I dream I'm a doctor performing a peanut cookie study,
and wake up in the morning thinking of my Nutter Butter buddies...

Scenes from a Celebration

Today was the National Championship celebration from the Swamp. 50,000+ fans witnessed the team, the coaches and the university president (yawn) yuck it up. We cheered, watched highlight videos, listened to speeches (including a guest commentary by Mr. Weurffel) and soaked in the atmosphere on a beautiful day.

Ooh before you buy that armoire...may I suggest? The clock can be worked in somewhere...not front and center...but a place could be found...the armoire, not so much. You, however, would fit in anywhere.

I gotta go to sleep. My alarm is set for 6am, but I don't care. Another trophy is coming to Hoggetowne. Wait until you see the pics and stories from the celebration last night/this morning. Fireworks, thousands of people spilling into the police blocked streets, stereos cranked to eleven...just a typical night in Chompville.....
